Muriel’s Kitchen is a great example of a business with a brilliant story to tell. While regular customers of this chain of 1950s-style British restaurants will know all about what makes it special, there are vast swathes of people all over the country who are yet to catch on and give Muriel’s a try.
Muriel’s wanted to capture the essence of their restaurants on film, and they came to Fresh Cut for a solution.
The owners have achieved great success across London with their modern take on traditional British dishes and homely comfort food, served in a 1950s-style kitchen setting. Muriel’s prides itself on producing classic family recipes with the finest, freshest, local ingredients.
The restaurants get their name from the owner’s grandmother, and the family feel is evident in abundance at every touchpoint of the Muriel’s brand. The owners wanted to deliver the experience of visiting Muriel’s to new audiences on the web via video, and we happily agreed to help them tell their story and encourage new visitors to their highly regarded chain of restaurants.
Simplicity is the key to the success of Muriel’s kitchen as a business, and we took the same approach to the creation of their video.
By simply arriving at the Muriel’s restaurant in South Kensington, we put ourselves in position to film a great video, surrounded as we were by happy diners, great-looking food, friendly staff and a relaxed atmosphere.
To capture the details of the restaurant and move easily in and out of the various spaces without disturbing people, we opted for simple hand-held camerawork and a shallow depth of field. This set-up helped us to reflect the soft, personal tone that is an integral part of the Muriel’s brand.
The team at Muriel’s Kitchen was so proud of the video we created with them at their restaurant that it now sits proudly on the homepage of their website, as well as being shared widely across social.
