The National Lottery had a 25-minute press opportunity with Team GB diver and television personality Tom Daley, and turned to Fresh Cut and Tanjun Media to help them make the most of their meeting with one of Britain’s most popular athletes.
Short press ops are common practice for sports stars and athletes are adept at giving snappy interviews, but these routine press activities don’t lend themselves to in-depth video production concepts.
Not wanting to miss out on the chance to create an engaging piece of content with one of Team GB’s most recognisable stars, The National Lottery team were smart enough to think: “There must be something we can do…”
Having listened carefully to the brief, we made the bold decision to leave the camera at the office and off we headed with a microphone and an audio recorder for our fifteen minutes with Tom.
We asked Tom to tell us about key moments in his life and his sporting career, so that we could capture a compelling interview that would act as the narrative to the creative concept we were conjuring up in the background.
To turn this simple audio interview into an effective piece of content to be shared on The National Lottery’s social media channels, we called upon the services of a visual artist who knows a thing or two about creating eye-catching viral videos.
Scott Weston is the creative force behind Internet sensation, Draw My Life. His videos tell the stories of people’s lives in less than five minutes, using his unique illustrations and animations – and everybody is getting in on it. From Hollywood actors like Robert Downey Jr and Daniel Craig, to popstars like Harry Styles and Taylor Swift, Scott’s repertoire reads like a ‘Who’s Who’ of the most followed stars on the web.
At Fresh Cut, collaboration is at the heart of everything we do, and we worked with Scott to turn our Tom Daley interview into an unforgettable animated story of the diver’s life. With just over 30,000 followers on Twitter, @drawnyourtweet was the perfect partner to help turn Tom’s life story into a unique piece of content for The National Lottery.
