We partnered with The National Lottery & Team GB to tell the inspiring story of Micky Yule.
The National Lottery & Team GB wanted to showcase the individuals they support with a short film. As a staff sergeant serving with the Royal Engineers, Micky lost both legs after stepping on an IED. His life changed forever in that moment and Micky has embarked on a extraordinary journey which has led him to be competing as a powerlifter at the Commonwealth Games.
We developed a creative approach that brought Micky's story to life to the audience within the limitations of the filming opportunity & budget. We had access to Micky for three hours so time was tight. To maximise the opportunity whilst the camera department set up in his home gym, the director & sound recordist captured an audio interview that we could use as a powerful voiceover. We combined his story with visuals of Micky's workout routine adding sound design & visual effects to really emphasise his story.
I think if you’re able to execute strong storytelling in this manner, those particular pieces of content are timeless. Allowing us to create a story that has touched people, engaged them and made them appreciate the opportunities National Lottery funding gives to people. So for us Micky Yule’s story underpins what we stand for as a brand and it is a story we’re able to use time and time again to inspire a new audience.
